About the

Founder

Joey Harvey (he/him) is a passionate and witty food writer, media creative, and barista. His work lives comfortably as the bridge between highly consumable food media and investigative journalism. Having worked in kitchens and cafes for most of his adult life, Joey pairs this vast knowledge with his sharp wit to craft pieces ranging from homages to Benadryl to elevating the stories of people strengthening our food systems.

A University of California, Irvine graduate with degrees in Political Science and Anthropology turned New York University Food Studies Master’s Candidate, his studies in both graduate and undergraduate landed him in search of the answer to "Why we eat what we eat?”

Growing up in a small mountain town in rural California, a food-loving family and a constant stream of food media was Joey’s entryway into a life fueled by food explorations. His love for food and the community it creates originated from the countless hours spent sitting on countertops watching his parents recreate their staple dishes as Emeril Live! played loudly through the living room television.

Now trading in the towering mountains of his hometown to skyscraper-lined skylines in New York City, Joey still finds love in sharing meals with loved ones. When he is not procrastinating about writing that piece that came up in one of his dreams, you can find him playing the same three chords on the guitar, talking about extraction with the local baristas, or enjoying some natural wines in Brooklyn.
